This is a famous Latin proverb meaning that art is long and life is short . This applies to the art and craft of acting too and an actor must strive hard to stretch himself to expand his artistic abilities.
On one hand his efforts must be directed towards perfecting his own craft and constantly working on his individual shortcomings by spending a minimum time of three to four hours a day when he is not shooting or rehearsing for a play. On the second hand he must find time to understand the nuances of different departments of theatre and film making and spend considerable amount of quality time with professionals to know how the other departments function in the collaborative work.
Apart from this it’s his duty to appreciate the other art forms like music, dance ,painting ,sculpture and poetry which includes literature .To attend musical evenings of classical masters, to visit painting exhibitions and museums and to watch poets reciting their poetry in front of live audience should be a part of daily curriculum of a disciplined actor.
